In March 2006, the laws were ramped up and it became compulsory for tobacco products to include graphic health warnings including close up images of lung cancer and feet with gangrene. Every time a smoker or potential smoker handles or buys a cigarette packet they see these warnings.
A person who smokes 20 cigarettes a day will see these health warnings over 7,000 times a year (Tobacco in Australia).
