Tobacco and the law

hard facts

Which do you think kills more Australians?

a)   alcohol and other drugs

b)   murder

c)   being late for dinner

d)   car crashes

e)   smoking

The answer is ‘e’, smoking. In fact smoking kills more Australians than all of the above put together - ok, except 'being late for dinner' as we don't have any stats on that.

If smoking is so dangerous, why aren’t there laws against it? Well, actually there are!  In Australia there are federal and state laws that aim to reduce the amount of harm done by smoking tobacco.
